They say that imitation is the best form of flattery... This statement has in it two meanings. It may be positive or negative depending on the circumstances. Some imitations are done for the good and benefit of everyone especially the object or person copied while some are just plain nasty. Piracy of any kind of item or thing is a hundred percent illegal and is considered as a form of crime. Several objects in this current time are constantly being pirated and some of them, believe it or not are coins... The excellent and efficient process of how to detect fake coins will be the main issue in this article.

One of the best and most insuring ways of identifying whether a particular coin is authentic or not is through the processes of study and action; it is best to know every possible fact, information, and anatomy of the coin and then put what you have learned into action when in the hunt for pirated and fraudulent coins, particularly those in a gold coin collection. Experienced and professional coin collectors may also lend a hand of how to detect fake coins by giving tips and showing how real and certified authentic coins should feel, look and even sound like.

When in doubt of a coin's authenticity and legibility, it is advised to trust one's own instincts and gut feelings. If coin appears too superior to be true then maybe it harbors something "fishy." Ask the coin dealer questions and papers or certificates, if possible to really know whether or not the item is an imitation. Also take note of the dealer's reputability and popularity among coin collectors. If he or she is recommended by a lot of highly accredited and professional coin collectors then it is likely safe to put your trust in him or her.

Several large coin establishments and minting companies sometimes offer rare and valuable coins for the public. Although it may have a higher price, it is ten times safer to buy from them. Each coin sold comes with a certificate to prove its authenticity. The physical characteristics of fake coins also differ immensely than the real ones. A great trick to remember when in the process of detecting fake coins is through the appearance of the coin. If the coin seems to be very shiny and sound funny when dropped then the coin is most probably a fake. Real and authentic coins are also said to be harder than its counterfeited counterparts.

If one has accidentally bought a fraud coin, immediately go back to the coin dealer and demand for an explanation and possibly a refund. It is illegal to sell pirated items and one may face court and legal appeals if commits one. Remember, the customer is always rights so stand up and defend your right. Learn from your mistake and from there practice and examine first the coin of your interest before buying.

Those are just some of the ways one can counter coin piracy. There are a lot more methods, tactics, and strategies out there. Just take your time to learn as much as you can so as not to be a victim of pirated coins; with gold being so valuable - also beware of pirated coins when working on your gold coin collection.
